The Facebook Post to Inspire this Blog…

On November 9th, 2016, I was feeling a wide range of emotions. I was angry, sad, disappointed, confused and hopeful. I was angry with the results. I was disappointed in the voters. I was confused as to what had just happened. And I was hopeful the data was wrong and somehow there would be a miraculous amount of votes, previously uncounted, which would switch the results of the election. But, I knew it was going to happen and I felt like I needed to say something. This led to my first real political Facebook post, in a long time. Up until then, I’ve shared stories or posted a sentence or two on my feelings. But, this was the first time in a while where I really just wrote what I felt. So, here it is, the post which inspired this blog:

“I would have accepted a McCain presidency in 2008.
I would have accepted a Romney presidency in 2012.
This is different.

We just succeeded our first black President with a candidate that was endorsed by the KKK. Think about that. Let it sink in. This isn’t about policies. This isn’t about Democrat vs. Republican, Liberal vs. Conservative. If that was the case, I might be saying, “this sucks,” and then moving on with my day. I genuinely would have accepted a Cruz, Rubio, Kasich, Carson, Christie or Bush presidency. Again, this is different.

I feel physically sick. I’ve cried multiple times. Go ahead, laugh from the other side of your computer or phone. Think that I’m being dramatic for feeling that way. If that’s your response, then it proves my point, that you genuinely don’t care about the lives and human rights of others. The buzzword, “emails,” was more important to you.

Our 45th President wants to ban all Muslims from the country. Our 45th President called Mexicans rapists. Our 45th President believed that our 44th President wasn’t born in the United States. Our 45th President mocked a disabled reporter. Our 45th President was accused by 12 women of committing sexual assault. Our 45th President said John McCain wasn’t a war hero. Our 45th President had his Twitter account taken away because he’s too erratic to control it. Our 45th President believes climate change is a hoax. Our 45th President thinks women should be punished for having abortions. Our 45th President thinks it’s smart that he doesn’t pay income taxes. Our 45th President thinks it’s okay to grab women by the pussy without their consent.

This isn’t a fucking joke. It’s not a funny meme. This is the new Commander in Chief of our country. People aren’t upset because we lost the presidency to Republicans. We’re upset because we lost it to Donald Trump. A xenophobic, racist, sexist, Islamophobic, homophobic man.

So, I stand with our LGBTQ+ community. I stand with our Black community. I stand with our Muslim community. I stand with our Latino community. I stand with all females. I stand with the reproductive rights of females. I stand with immigrants. I stand with any community that feels marginalized by Donald Trump. I stand for LOVE.”
